Common problems in the casting of aluminum castings include: porosity, cracks, shrinkage and porosity, and cold isolation.

 

Pores:

The pore defects of cast aluminum can be divided into five types: intrusion pores, entrapment pores, precipitation pores, endogenous reaction pores, and exogenous reaction pores. The first three types of pore defects are more common in aluminum castings.

 

crack:

There are two main reasons for the occurrence of cracks in aluminum castings: the solidification method of aluminum castings and the casting stress during solidification. Aluminum castings have a wide solidification temperature range. Shrinkage cavity and shrinkage porosity are manifested by the rough surface of the hole wall and irregular shape, which usually appear in the position and hot spot of the later solidification of the casting. Shrinkage porosity is formed when the liquid phase in the solidification zone is divided into small isolated molten pools by dendrites in the later stage of solidification. The volume shrinkage of the small molten pools cannot be compensated during solidification. Alloys with a wide crystallization temperature range are easier to form shrinkage porosity. Cold barrier

 

The cold partition presents a crack-like gap, but the gap has rounded edges. Most of the cold barrier defects are formed by solidification and blockage of the flow head. The solution to the defect of the cold barrier is mainly to improve the filling capacity of the molten metal, including increasing the pouring temperature, increasing the mold temperature, improving the exhaust, and optimizing the design of the pouring system. ‍
